Un Byd (One World) Project
Un Byd (One World )
This important art project links up Afan Forest Park with its twinned C.W. Nicol Woodland Trust in Japan.
Welsh artist Paula Denby initially worked alongside visiting Japanese artist Godo Utaka to develop a project which is a celebration of the similarities and differences between the two forests.
Children from four local schools each spent a day with Paula studying the valley and then produced art works based on their experiences.
All of these pieces influenced and contributed to the two final paintings Paula produced
One set of the Art works is on permanent display in the “Japanese room” at Afan Forest Visitors Centre.
Background
“These photos show the initial incubation phase where l surrounded myself with the childrens work and began the backgrounds on the duplicate artworks… dragons appeared but were painted over with forest green.
l had use of a “cabin” for a couple of weeks in the forest till l brought the works home and finished them on my dining table.
One of my cats especially like to sit on my artworks when he gets the stolen opportunity – I believe there are one or two of his hairs on those paintings somewhere!” Paula Denby
